Bear Story Teller
This piece of ceramic art is a combination of different ideas that I have been exposed to and have found interesting over the years. As a young girl my father collected Story Tellers from the Puebla Indians. I have always been fascinated with this type of art and have looked into it more seriously over the recent years. I appreciate art that appreciates other art forms, like the art of story telling! Since I began to write the story The Lake Mermaid I kept feeling like the book needed some other form of art to accompany it. One day it dawned on me that the story teller was the perfect partner. I tried different ways of building the story teller with clay. I finally decided that using Plastina and creating a mold would be the best. I chose a mold because of it's ability to create multiple pieces. Vintage French Magolica also influenced this piece of art. I used a glaze that has a slightly iridescent shimmer to it, which is reminiscent of the tin in the French Magolica glazes.
